GARBAGE & RECYCLING

Duneland Beach Association

GARBAGE PICKUP

Garbage pickup is provided by Republic Services.  DBA has one account and service is paid for via your association dues.
  • Garbage pick-up is every Monday. If you wish to have larger items, such as furniture, refrigerators and mattresses, picked up please contact Republic directly at 219.921.1271 to arrange a pickup date and potentially prepay a pickup fee. The fee depends on the item but is usually $40. One garbage bin is provided as part of your annual dues. If you wish to have additional garbage bins, please contact Republic directly at 219.921.1271 to establish an account. Costs associated with the additional bins are the responsibility of the homeowner.
  • Yard waste can be placed in the can or directly next to it if there is not enough room. Yard waste is picked up with trash. Yard waste does not have to be in brown bags, any bag is fine but it must be in a bag. You may place up to two extra yards of waste next to your trash bin per week. Anything more will not be picked up and is the responsibility of the homeowner to remove. If you have any comments or questions on the service. Contact us at info@dunelandbeach.net
  • Feel free to call Republic directly for things like a bulk pickup, but our contract with Republic saves them time and us money since the 204 members of DBA don’t call them or get billed directly, saving some overhead for them.   Our contract also includes pickups at the bins near the beach entrances.  I would ask that when those are full – usually only on July 4 or Labor day weekend maybe, members take trash back to their personal bins at the house instead of stacking at the beach entrance outside the bins.

RECYCLING PICKUP

Recycling pickup is done by LaPorte County and is paid for via a small levy on our Real Estate tax bills. It is not part of the dues for DBA.
  • That link also contains the pickup schedule should you have questions on Recycling. Recycling is handled by the county, not by Republic who does our garbage pickup. The recycle link has tons of info on things like hazardous material disposal and details on how to recycle so they’ll be willing to pick things up.

LEAF PICKUP

Leaf pickup there is only one Spring leaf pickup. There are multiple Fall leaf pickups.
  • Our contractor will make one pass through the entire community. Any leaves raked to the street after the pickup will be the homeowner’s responsibility to remove. The leaf pickup machine is vacuum-operated and pulls the leaves into a spinning blade that is very susceptible to damage from solid objects. Please rake only leaves to the edge of the road – NO rocks, bricks, wires, branches, etc. If you have a landscaping service, please make sure they are aware of this. If you have small branches, please put them in a separate pile for pickup. Do not place any yard debris, including leaves and sticks, in the recycling containers.
  • There is a Fall leaf pickup usually in November with multiple dates and we will send out the date/dates when we have them.  As a practical matter, we want to do that when the leaves have fallen and our pickup provider has a schedule to maintain for his business.  Leaf disposal sounds simple but in volume requires a permit to dump them somewhere.  La Porte County has a yard waste/composting location that DBA members can use if they want to do some DIY cleanup.  Its at the LaPorte county fairgrounds and can be found at the link here:  https://www.solidwastedistrict.com/
